A preventive visit is a yearly appointment intended to prevent illnesses and detect health concerns early, before symptoms are noticeable. Depending on your specific insurance plan, this type of visit may be called an annual physical or well-child exam. To empower your child with a healthy body and a healthy mind, Dr. Vani places a lot of emphasis on preventive health care. Comprehensive well checks are the cornerstone of preventive health care. The American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes developmental surveillance at each well child visit, with formal developmental screening at 9, 18, and 30 months and autism-specific screening at 18 and 24 months. From 3 years of age, well check visits are performed once a year.
During the well-child visit, your pediatrician will perform a comprehensive head-to-toe assessment of your child and identify need for any further investigation. Dr. Vani will review to ensure that immunizations are up to date. Vision and hearing screening will be performed. Other testing, based on the patient history (eg. anemia, lead levels, cholesterol panel), are also performed during the well visit. Well visit is also a great opportunity to review with your pediatrician and plan care coordination to address the needs of patients with special needs or complex medical conditions.
Preventative visits are in contrast to an office visit, which is focused on treatment and returning your child to wellness. Office visits are designed to discuss new or existing health issues, concerns, worries or symptoms. On occasion, one appointment can meet the requirements for both types of visits. If this is the case, Dr. Vani will submit a charge for both a preventive visit and an office visit. If your preventive visit includes consultation or treatment for a specific condition, Dr. Vani is legally required to document additional medical services, and depending on your insurance may result in additional charges that are not fully covered.
